Bama's Biggest Heartbreaks
« on: February 17, 2012, 07:00:31 PM »
The Bama Hammer blog is asking fans to participate in a poll of their biggest "heartbreaks."

Here's the link:  http://bamahammer.com/2012/02/16/poll-worst-heartbreak-in-alabama-football-history/

In my opinion, "heartbreaks" should be limited to losses on the field.

For Bama fans who were around back then, Coach Bryant's passing only a month after his final game could rank as their greatest "personal" loss outside a member of their family or a close friend.

Figured the Cam game would be #1 with "Punt, Bama, Punt" coming in second, using my criteria.

FWIW, I'd rank the '66 season-Notre Dame/Michigan St. fiasco #3 and the Orange Bowl loss to TX with Joe Namath getting the ball across the goal line #4.

The '77 season-Notre Dame Jumping Everybody would be my #5.

No offense to Tyrone Prothro or Shaud Williams (who screamed at his linemen to, "BLOCK, DAMMIT!!! "

Guess I'm dating myself here.

BTW, as big as some of these losses were (are), the Crimson Tide still ranks in the Top 5 in wins in college football history.

Just tryin' to generate some comments.

"No, man, journalism. It was easier." - Joe Namath, after a reporter asked if he majored in basket weaving at Alabama.
