Full Story

Quote
The proposal calls for kickoffs to be at the 35-yard line instead of the 30. Touchbacks on free kicks would be brought out to the 25-yard line rather than the 20. The NCAA said data indicates injuries occur more often during kickoffs than any other phases of the game.

The recommendations must be approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel, which meets Feb. 21. NCAA members will first have a chance to comment on the proposals.

The NFL just completed its first season with kickoffs taking place at the 35-yard line, not the 30. The league thought touchbacks would increase to about 30 percent. Instead, through the first 13 weeks, 45.9 percent of kickoffs resulted in touchbacks, up significantly from 18.8 percent the year before, according to The New York Times in early December.

I think the "Kick-off" is the very best play in football.  I hate to see them take it away.  I coached my boys team last fall and we didn't kick at all. He played a-team.  We kicked field goals and extra points when I played at a much younger age.  I've always felt special teams make up a third of the game ...and I'd like for it to stay the same.  I understand the injury concerns but we're talking about football here.  Warriors aren't afraid to leave everything on the field.  Depriest and Vinny just wouldn't appear as vicious without kick coverage opportunities. lol  I love full speed collisions at the end of 50 yrd sprints.  These are plays for real men.  I say leave them alone or we'll see them doing away with special teams next.

If it were left up to the ncaa

Everybody would be wrapped in Bubble Wrap

From head to toe.

And we would "issue" happy face trophies to every player

on every Team.

And Skip the season - all together.

These  "proffesionl"  IDIOTS

are about to get on my last nerve.

These so called "know it alls" WILL NOT STOP

until they F-UP- every part- of everything they can get their hands on.

You should see what has happened to offshore fishing

due to Federal Regulations.

Every year they crank down on what you can and cannot catch

and how long the "seasons" will last.

Its Infuriating.

And I see the very same thing going on- with the ncaa

all under the guise- of trying to "help".

In the words of a friend of mine:

"Something  Ain't  Right"

They would only make our scoring defense that much better....lol. It will hurt Auburn big time. The NFL is doing it. Bring it on down to the NCAA. I am all for it.

I had hoped one season would pass without the NCAA's Safety Idiots trying to convert football into square dancing. Fat chance. Next year it will be something else, maybe blocking above the waist, or no blocking punts because you might get kicked.  And the year after that there will be more "enlightened" changes. Better save all your recorded games so you can show the grandkids how football was once played.

I strongly fear that they're going to legislate football out of football before long. it's already not the game we grew up with.

If they move it up 5 yards a year for a few years we may end up being able to actually kick some to the end zone.

Now, that we have a kicker coming in that can kick the skin off the ball, they want to move the KO up.
We'll  see what happens.  With our D, it doesn't matter whether the ball comes out to the 20 or 25.  Hopefully, we continue to be dominating on the D side of the ball.

that made me chuckle "Bleeding" !  Kick the skin off the ball...I'm not against the move to much...I just don't want them flipping for who starts on offense without a kickoff...like they now do in pee wee football...the kickoff is the best play in football to me...a place for studds to make a name for themselves early in their careers like vinnie and depreist have done this year...like the derrick thomas' of the world did before them!  It would be nice to see a touchback in a close game though!!! lol
