"12's Take" Alabama #1 in 2009 Power Rankings

I was having a "discussion" with a few of the guys on the USC board over on www.bleachereport.com, and as the conversation got more and more interesting, I decided to counter the argument with Alabama's competition in the SEC.  I have to admit, some of what I discovered even surprised me.  Here's a link to the actual conversation was having.  Warning: it gets a little more sarcastic and heated than some of you may be used to.

Here's my last post.

Here are the power rankings for the end of the 2009 season. I'm sure USC fans will find a way to discredit it as they do everything that doesn't state that USC is #1 in EVERYTHING FOOTBALL RELATED, but for the rest of us who are living in the real world, here it is:

Our college football power ratings measure the relative

I'm Just Sayin' Be A Responsible Person

The other night I went to Hooters to have some wings and a few drinks.  I had worked a 18 hour day and it seemed like a great idea.  So I get to the restaurant and I eat some good food, I drink a few beers and I stop in mid drink at a site that made my stomach take a turn for the worse; a pregnant woman downing a tall-boy beer.

Let me say that I do realize that they make non-alcoholic beer, but there’s no doubt in my mind by the way she was downing this beer that it had alcohol in it.  I was appalled to say the least.  Drinking alcohol while pregnant is one of stupidest, most selfish things a woman could ever do.  This is off the internet.

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause FASDs (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome), with effects that range from mild to severe. These effects include mental retardation; learning, emotional and behavioral problems; and defects involving the heart, face and other organs. The most severe of these effects is fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), a combination of physical and mental birth defects.

The Fine Line: How many championships does Alabama ACTUALLY have?

Plenty of people have different opinions. And we are gonna give you ours. We have done the research, and we hope to put an end to the speculation. ESPN says 8, the NCAA says 13, and some Alabama fans try to claim as many as 17.

Here are the championships claimed by Alabama:
1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009

Here's how we see it:

1925 - This is a legitimate national title. Alabama went 9-0, and went on to beat Washington in the Rose Bowl to claim its first ever National Title.
# of Championships: 1

1926 - Also a legit title. Alabama went 9-0 again, and tied Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Nowadays, this would probably be a shared title. But because of no overttime, a winner had to be selected, and the polls chose Alabama as the strongest team.
# of Championships: 2

1930 - Alabama went 9-0 again, and destroyed Washington State in the Rose Bowl, 24-0. The polls gave a shared championship with Notre Dame in this year, but realistically, this

"12's Take" The Pacific Coast Conference

Now that the Pac 10 will have 12 teams in its membership, I believe it would be apropriate to have a name change.  Along with the 10 teams currently in the Pac 10, Colorado and Utah will be joining the league to create a 12 team league.  Colorado is the home of Coors Beer, so Coors would be a perfectly logical sponsor of the new league...thus opening the door for the new Coors sponsored league...

are you ready...

Story on Lt. Governor James Folsom Jr.

I've gotten a lot of PM's of support and congrats since my last Editorial, along with some members asking me to post one of my stories. Yesterday, I had the chance to interview and speak with former governor and current Lt. Governor, James Folsom Jr. Below is a small clip of the story, along with the link.

NOTE: I know this article has political overtones as Mr. Folsom is currently running for the re-election for the Lt. Governor office, but please note that it is in no way a political endorsement or an advocacy for Mr. Folsom's campaign. He was making a campaign stop in Jasper and I would have happily extended the same amount of coverage to his opponent, Ms. Ivey or any candidate that campaigns in my area. His visit and Mr. Folsom just struck me on a personal level as he and his family were very close friends with several members of my family.

I'm just sayin' Take Me To Vegas BABY!

As you all know I am a Crimson Tide football fan and the past two years have been unbelievable for our team.  After being on campus and experiencing 2 years of the Shula era, and 1 year of the Saban rebuilding process I was so excited when the Alabama Crimson Tide won the 2010 National Championship.  I was 8 years old when we won the title in ’92 and I remember nothing of it.  So for the younger generation this championship meant so much.  Seeing the buzz that something like this created has been the joy of a lifetime, but it just started my year.  That was January 7th, our boys took the fight to the Texas long horns and we left Pasadena once again champions.

As if that wasn’t enough for me, I’m also a huge Duke Blue Devils basketball fan.  I have read all of Coach K’s books, and I love the way they play basketball.  It’s the way I grew up playing it.  Teamwork, dedication, hard work on and off the court, and discipline is all aspects of each players’ lives is what Coach K demands.  Sounds familiar doesn’t it?

The Fine Line Update

just wanted to let everyone know that we are gearing up for a HUGE 'Fine Line' about conference expansion. Can't wait for it! We are gonna blow it up, so look for it at the beginning of next week!
